Summary Notes: Shannon Bream Event at Cornerstone Chapel
Speaker
Shannon Bream (Anchor of Fox News Sunday, Chief Legal Correspondent for Fox News, host of the podcast Livin’ the Bream, and author)
Main Topic
Discussion of her latest book: Nothing Is Impossible With God
Personal Background & Testimony
Met husband Sheldon at Liberty University; married 30 years.
Shortly before their wedding, Sheldon was diagnosed with a golf-ball-sized brain tumor (acoustic neuroma). Surgery was successful but resulted in permanent hearing loss on one side and a season of deep depression.
Shannon later suffered from Map-dot-fingerprint dystrophy for over two years — excruciating corneal pain, sleeplessness, migraines, and double vision. Multiple doctors failed to help; she reached a point of deep depression and suicidal thoughts.
God ultimately led her to the correct specialist who diagnosed and treated her. She had successful surgery and is now grateful for restored vision.
Key spiritual moment: God spoke to her spirit, “I will be with you,” even though healing was not immediate. She clung to 2 Corinthians 12:9 (Paul’s thorn in the flesh).
Book Overview
Focuses on 11 biblical overcomers: Gideon, Moses, Peter, Joseph, Jonah, Daniel, Nehemiah, Noah, Joshua, Elijah, and Jesus.
Emphasizes that God uses flawed, weak, and imperfect people; nothing is impossible with Him.
Highlights themes of doubt, betrayal, failure, rebellion, cultural pressure, and God’s faithfulness in hardship.
Key Insights Shared on Biblical Figures
Peter: Favorite character. Overcame his own failure and denial of Christ; was lovingly restored and used powerfully by God.
Gideon: Classic underdog story. God called him a “mighty warrior” while he was hiding; grew in faith through small steps and God received all the glory.
Joseph: Betrayed by his brothers yet remained faithful and integrous. Broke the cycle of betrayal. Famous line: “What you meant for evil, God meant for good” (Genesis 50).
Jonah: Became comfortable in disobedience and sin, able to sleep through a life-threatening storm. Warns against becoming numb to favorite sins and rebellion against God.
Daniel: Taken captive as a teenager, stripped of identity, language, culture, and exposed to paganism. Stayed faithful by surrounding himself with like-minded believers. Encouragement to youth: stay anchored in Christ and build strong community of faith.
Jesus: Ultimate Overcomer. Left heaven to experience human suffering. Serves as the bridge between us and God. Overcame sin and death, offering redemption and relationship.
Closing Message
If you are hurting or feel far from God, Christ is reaching for you.
Jesus is not a list of rules but offers unconditional love, redemption, and relationship.
Key verse for the book: John 16:33 – “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
